Lost Palestine
This project was created for the ISTD. I chose to look at Palestine in relation to the “Lost” brief. Not only have they lost land but they have also lost their basic human rights and human necessities.
I used Maslow’s hierarchy of needs to highlight how the Palestinian’s aren’t even making the bottom tier of human needs such as health, shelter, food, water, sleep, property, social stability, employment, clothing and so on. I made the chapters in my book based on these losses. The chapters are broken down into the following; displacement, detainment, health care and deaths.
The book is trilingual. It’s primarily English but uses hebrew and arabic throughout. The journal is for a Western audience so hebrew and arabic were not as dominant as english. The chapter openings used Arabic and Hebrew words or phrases. The words and phrases differ depending on which side of the conflict you are on. I wanted to use type as a way to express how voiceless the Palestinian’s feel so the Hebrew is much larger and obscures most of the Arabic text.
